BCA National Council Meeting Update: Focus on Membership Growth and “Project: Catalyst”
The National Council Meeting in Renton, WA centered on a clear and urgent priority: reversing declining membership across the BCA. Leadership highlighted a steady drop since 2019 and emphasized the need to “grow the Sangha” through renewed focus on sharing teachings and community engagement. While some temples have successfully expanded—offering encouraging examples—the broader trend signals a need for coordinated, system-wide action to ensure long-term sustainability.
To address this, leaders introduced “Project: Catalyst,” a proposed five-year pilot aimed at rethinking how membership dues are structured. The initiative would give temples more flexibility in defining membership while stabilizing BCA assessments and encouraging local growth strategies. Early feedback from delegates reflected both optimism and practical concerns, with many sharing innovative approaches already underway. The proposal will continue to be refined throughout 2026, with a potential vote in 2027.
