DHARMA SCHOOL is a place for us to share how we can incorporate basic Buddhist thought and practice into everyday lives.

Shin Buddhism is a practice of “no practice” in that there are a few traditional rituals that we participate in, such as chanting, offering incense, participating in readings & listening to Dharma messages, the main emphasis is teaching how to accept life’s bumps and challenges in a positive way. It is this way of learning how to understand our thoughts and actions that can help us navigate through daily life.
Dharma students, for children from 4 years old through high school, will learn about the items on the altar and their significance, the meaning of the beads we use, how to offer incense, a basic interpretation of the sutra chanting, and any other questions they have about things they see or experience during the service.
We celebrate, recognize & explain certain holidays and explain their meaning.  These may include Buddha’s birth, our founder Shinran’s birth, spring and fall equinox, Buddha’s enlightenment and Obon, when we remember our ancestors.
Depending on the ages of the children, we may have one large class or break up into smaller classes.  In this Covid life we’re experiencing, we are having classes via Zoom, on the second and fourth Sundays of the month, 10:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.  Reverend Dennis joins us for classes and starts with a short Dharma message.
All are welcome – if you’d like to just observe a class, please contact us and we’ll send a link to our upcoming class.
