October 4 – Fireside Chats on Shin Buddhism
...

Our mission is to share these teachings in a welcoming and supportive community, as we strive to practice gratitude and compassion, and to understand the interdependence of life that connects us all. We encourage everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identification, sexual orientation, age or religious background to join us as we seek the path to enlightenment together.
Buddhism is a reflection of the life experience of Siddhartha Gautama. Prince Siddhartha lived over 2,500 years ago, and gave up the material life to seek the truth of enlightenment. Upon his awakening, the Prince came to be known as Sakyamuni Buddha. This process towards enlightenment of personal dedication, effort, and discipline is usually considered to be the one and only way of authentic Buddhism practice.
*Legend has it that Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who became known as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment under a Bodhi tree. Our Bodhi tree can be found in front of the statue of Shinran Shonin, founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect of Buddhism.
