A Spiritual Path for Today – The Life of Shakyamuni Buddha

The Buddhist Temple of Alameda will offer spring classes on Buddhism this April online. We will utilize the book, “The Teaching of Buddha” published by Bukkyo Dendo Kyokai to explore the life and teachings of Shakyamuni Buddha. We will also provide supplemental notes. The Buddha’s experience of awakening and enlightenment can assist us to cultivate our own foundation of stability and strength to face the demands of our difficult lives in the modern world today.

Classes will be held on Thursday evenings, 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM, April 2, 9, 16, & 23.

Life responsibilities of work, home, and family increase the demands upon each of us. Declining health of those we care for as well as ourselves is an ongoing process. Age and illness confront us all. Despite such difficulties, stability and grounding allow us to proceed with strength and joy. Buddhism provides such a path. As followers of the Dharma, our practice is to live our lives guided by the principles of Wisdom and Compassion. What is the wisdom that guides our lives? Is compassion our gift to better the world or is compassion a gift humbly received? As we live our everyday lives, we are guided to a different way of seeing life and the world that surrounds us.

These classes are free of charge and open to the public. Registration is required. Deadline to register is March 30, 2026. The book may be purchased or downloaded free of charge through BDK America. Classes are hosted by the Buddhist Education Committee of the Buddhist Temple of Alameda. For further information email [email protected]. You can also call or text Rev. Dennis Fujimoto at (916) 416-0919, or email him at [email protected].
